Stonehenge/New Forest

John Sollis and his wife-to-be Jackie on the Winchester Hills. (ex Moving Pictures)
Drove thru to Salisbury where we parked in a club campsite within walking distance of the town centre. Failed to get the laptop talking to the internet via our cellphone (seems to be a foreign concept here!) Salisbury is a lovely town on the River Avon. The cathedral is great - tallest spire in England!

Next day we drove the short distance to Stonehenge - they appeared small first off, but when we walked around them they were amazing! They have a very good personal audio system you listen as you wander around.

On our way back thru Salisbury we bought our cycles - cost a bit more than expected but look flash!

We drove thru to the New Forest and spent the night at Denny's Wood at a Forest Park site.

Biked to Brokenhurst along forest tracks - beautiful in the Spring light. Well, Don did as Val pushed Don's bike most of the way as he had a flat tyre on his bike and cycled on ahead to get a pump!! Eventually the puncture was fixed and we enjoyed the ride back to camp.

After our adventures on the bikes, we drove back down to the coast and toured through Lymington, Christchurch, Bournemouth and Poole which are really one continuous urban strip along the coast. Back out on to the open roads at last and on to Weymouth which was really lovely - much nicer than the other coastal towns so far.

Tonight we are in a club camp close to Lyme Regis which we will visit tomorrow.

As this weekend is a long weekend we have booked 3 nights down on the Cornwall coast.

We have a ferry booking from Portsmouth to Le Havre on 6 May and hope to catch up with Sue & Patrice then.
Cheers, Val & Don
